The Giants' High Route, or Alta Via dei Giganti, is one of the Alps' most spectacular treks. This wild trail in the Aosta Valley follows the slopes of the Dora Baltea, offering stunning views of iconic peaks like Monte Rosa, Mont Blanc, the Matterhorn, and the Grand Combin.
Far from crowded paths, this trek immerses you in raw Alpine beauty, with sparkling glaciers, untouched valleys, and breathtaking landscapes. Ideal for hikers seeking a thrilling and authentic mountain adventure.
From Gressoney, you will begin a gentle ascent to the Alpenzu alp, where you can admire splendid 17th-century Walser chalets, a perfect example of traditional Aosta Valley architecture.
This stage takes you through majestic alpine landscapes via the Pinter Pass (2777 m), beneath the Testa Grigia. You will then descend into the valley to reach the charming village of Crest, surrounded by imposing peaks.
The ascent continues into the Ayas Valley, passing through the picturesque village of St Jacques, with stunning views of the Bec de Nannaz (3003 m). You will cross the Evançon River to enter the Nana Valley, dominated by the imposing Grand and Petit Tournalin summits.
Crossing the Nanaz Pass (2773 m), you will enter the Valtournenche Valley with impressive views of Breuil-Cervinia, nestled beneath the towering Matterhorn. The Monte Rosa completes this magnificent alpine tableau. You will end the day by the Swan Lake, where the Barmasse refuge awaits for the night.
This stage will take you across the Ersa and Tzan Passes (2736 m), revealing the splendid Saint-Barthélemy Valley with its many alpine lakes, including Lake Luseney. By the end of the day, you will reach the Cuney sanctuary, a place of serenity surrounded by mountains.
You will cross three passes on this day to reach the Valpelline, a famous valley that attracts hikers with its wild landscapes and exceptional trails. You will then descend to the village of Oyace.
On the final day, you will hike through the Plan Vallon pastures, offering breathtaking views of a vast mountainous amphitheater. You will reach the Lago and Morto Lakes, two alpine jewels with an intense blue hue, perfect for a well-deserved rest.
