The 9-day self-guided Tour du Mont Blanc, classic version, is perfect for hikers seeking an autonomous adventure with an authentic mountain experience. Cross the stunning landscapes of France, Italy, and Switzerland, hiking through alpine meadows, spruce forests, and charming villages, while enjoying panoramic views of Mont Blanc’s glaciers and peaks.

Hike at your own pace and stay in dormitory-style accommodations selected for their prime locations and welcoming mountain spirit. Each stage ends in a refuge or gîte, offering the chance to connect with fellow hikers and soak in the atmosphere of the Alps.

Day by day

Day 1 : Chamonix - Le Tour

Depart from Chamonix for a gentle uphill walk along a balcony trail at the foot of the Aiguilles Rouges. You will slowly progress along the valley, with beautiful views of the Mont Blanc massif towering over the landscape. Arrive at the picturesque village of Le Tour, nestled at the end of the valley, where you will spend the night.

Day 2 : Le Tour - Trient

From the village of Le Tour in France, a stunning ascent awaits you up to the Col de Balme. Once at the pass, the panorama opens up to Mont Blanc, Aiguille Verte, Les Drus, and the Aiguilles de Chamonix, providing a majestic backdrop. The descent takes you through a dense forest to the charming Swiss village of Trient.

Day 3 : Trient - Champex

You have two route options: either the alpine variant via the Fenêtre d’Arpette (2665 m), offering breathtaking views of the Trient Glacier, or the classic route via Bovine Alp, traversing lush meadows. Both routes lead to the picturesque village of Champex, nestled at the end of the valley.

Day 4 : Champex - Val Ferret (La Fouly)

This stage takes you through the bucolic landscapes typical of the Valais region: alpine meadows, traditional chalets, and the iconic black Hérens cattle. It’s a peaceful day but with stunning beauty, ending in the tranquil village of La Fouly, in the heart of the Swiss Val Ferret.

Day 5 : Swiss Val Ferret - Italian Val Ferret

After leaving La Fouly, you will cross the Grand Col Ferret, marking the border into Italy. The imposing Pré de Bar Glacier will guide you to Courmayeur, where the glaciers feel within arm’s reach. Don’t miss the opportunity to enjoy Italy’s famous gelato at the end of the day!

Day 6 : Courmayeur - Refuge Elisabetta

Pré de Bar Glacier will accompany you as you climb towards the Grand Col Ferret, marking your entrance into Switzerland. The alpine meadows of the Val Ferret, dotted with wildflowers and charming chalets, will lead you to a well-earned rest at the Elisabetta refuge, where the views of the surrounding glaciers are awe-inspiring.

Day 7 : Refuge Elisabetta - Refuge du Bonhomme

You will cross the Col de la Seigne, passing back into France and the Beaufortain region. As you descend toward Ville des Glaciers, take the opportunity to buy some delicious alpine Beaufort cheese. Then, ascend to the Col des Fours before reaching the Refuge du Bonhomme for the night.

Day 8 : Refuge du Bonhomme - Refuge de Miage

From the Col du Bonhomme, you’ll descend through the Contamines Nature Reserve and along the ancient Roman road, passing through forests and meadows. You’ll arrive at the charming chalets of Truc before reaching the Miage Valley, with its majestic glaciers.

Day 9 : Refuge de Miage - Les Houches

You will cross the Col du Tricot and then the Col de Voza, situated between the Aiguille de Bionnassay and the Aiguille du Goûter. Watch the climbers as they ascend Mont Blanc before descending towards the village of Les Houches, completing your tour.
